IN THE KNOW Macomb’s Stovall qualifies for state

ELMWOOD – It was a cold Saturday afternoon at the Class 1A Elmwood Sectional, but Macomb’s Maya Stovall was able to conquer the elements, to advance to this weekend’s Class 1A state meet in Peoria. Stovall finished sixth overall in 18 minutes, 40.4 seconds to earn one of seven individual qualifying spots. Stovall will head to Peoria alone as the Bombers finished 11th as a team, scoring 271 points. Emma Argo of Eureka on the meet, finishing in 17:59.43 while Williamsville took the team title with 98 points. Halle Evans finished 57th for Macomb, crossing in 20:34.81. Emma Wohlstadter was two spots back, finishing 59th in 20:36.49. Sophie Whitford (78th, 21:19.74) and Sylvia Barclay (111th, 22:25.57) rounded out Macomb’s scoring. The Bomber boys also missed out on state, finishing 15th as a team with 398 points. Elmwood- Brimfield won the meet with 96 points. Dakota Shepler led Macomb, finishing in 17:30.1, good for 82nd place. Alex Dranes was next, finishing in 89th with a time of 17:42.42. Kerem Tasdan (93rd, 17:51.94), Stan Melkumian (97th, 17:59.47) and Jalen Carter (125th, 18:56.02) rounded out Macomb’s scoring. Stovall’s state run begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
